Stunning outfits and fabulous accessories were the order of the day with no shortage of style on the hill. Ladies gathered in the Bellewstown Champagne Marquee and enjoyed a drinks reception before Kathryn Thomas, announced the 15 shortlisted ladies. Goodies bags were presented to each lady and the photographers had a field day with such a selection of colourful outfits and beautiful ladies. Celebrity guest Judge Kathryn Thomas then proceeded to announce the 3 finalists who proceeded to the parade ring for the final stage.
Being interviewed by Colm Murray of RTE Sport, Ladonna Tallon of City North Hotel spoke about how proud the hotel were to be associated with Bellewstown. "City North Hotel is a great meeting point for ladies who lunch or enjoy afternoon tea so it was a wonderful way for us to celebrate the wonderful ladies of this area." Colm also interviewed Alan Delany of Bellewstown Race Committee. Alan said "This was the first of three years that City North have committed to sponsor this event and that we look forward to the next two years". Colm then spoke to Kathryn Thomas who explained how difficult the judging had been and how she wished she didn't have to pick just one winner.
But she did select a winner! Anna Moore, originally from Bellewstown but now living in Swords was awarded the title of the 'City North Hotel Best Dressed Lady'. Kathryn presented Anna with a €5,000 prize courtesy of City North Hotel, Gormanston, Co. Meath before Colm Murray interviewed her. Anna spoke eloquently and bubbled effusively about her outfit describing it as "a Marilyn Monroe dress from New York, silk gloves made by a friend, topped off with a feather headpiece created by her sister. " It certainly was the outfit that made Anna stand out from the crowd at the world's oldest racecourse.
The runners up received vouchers from City North Hotel and a Bottle of Jacobs Creak bubbly. Heather O'Brien who travelled from Cavan to be at the races wore a black and white striped dress by Jaeger. The other runner up Veronica Walsh from Navan wore a green outfit from Coast coupled with a hat from the Mad Hatter and accessories by Costello and Costello.
Last Thursday may have been the inaugural August Best Dressed Lady Competition but it truly was a fabulous occasion and one guest was heard to comment "I'm looking forward to next year already". Chairman of Bellewstown Race Committee reminded racegoers that next years racedates are 3, 4, 5th July and 28th and 29th August - dates not to be missed!
